Injuries happen

2 weeks into boot camp, I'm feeling great, I'm having a wonderful time and I'm getting the hang of waking up early. The trainer is so supportive and encouraging as are other folks in the class. I've even heard a rumor that I've inspired folks by how hard the "fat girl" is working. Which is AWESOME.

But this week I hurt myself. Got myself a case of Plantar Fasciitus which is excruciatingly painful. Essentially my foot hurts and I'm limping around and am scared to death to continue to injure it by continuing boot camp. I can honestly say: this sucks!

So I'm taking the rest of the week off boot camp, I'm going to see a chiropractor tomorrow who works with plantar fasciitus and sneaking in some R&R by getting a facial and manicure with Megan at NW College.

So just wanted to check in and say officially, that injuries suck. But one has to take care of themselves to prevent further injury. Would love to know what others have done regarding this... have you taken time off, sought medical attention, pushed through it and kept up your exercise routine, etc?

Happy weekend!

  1. I have never had this but it's generally not a good idea to try and "push" through an injury as it then gets worse. You are doing the right things - seeing the Dr., taking a little time off. My advice is to follow the Doc's advice.

  2. I got it years ago when I started training running for a marat. HORRIBLY painful... My doctor sent me to a place called Cobbler Bill's to get custom shoes created for my feet. Within 2 days of wearing them I was back to normal. I couldn't believe it. I still have those shoes almost 7 years later and I wear them anytime my foot starts acting up again. The place is on 82nd and I would highly suggest a visit. The shoes and custom inserts were about 100 bucks total, but by far the nest investment I've ever made in my health.

  3. I was told a long time ago that pain is the bodys way of telling us that something is wrong. See a doc, get lots of rest, and don't push it. Sometimes the body heals on its own, but it's best to seek professional help as well.

I haven't had what you have but the way you make it sounds, it hurts like hell.

  4. I had this about 2 years ago and it sucks! Took nearly 9 months to resolve. One of the reason my doc said people get it is that they're maxing out on the weight thier body can naturally handle (our feet are saying 'enough'!). It was on of the reasons I started dieting and exercising even more. There are a lot of exercises/stretches for the feet that help this. A week off bootcamp might help BUT not exercising at all will just drag out the issue. I've heard shoe inserts help but they make me crazy so I just did the weightloss and stretches thing.

  5. Hey Lindsey, I am resting from injury too and, yeah damn this sucks. Your doing the right thing staying off that foot. The one thing you can do is swim or water aerobics if you want to keep getting some exercise in. I'd even be happy to go with you. I need to get my butt back in the pool again.
